Associate Members

Claverian Associate members are committed Catholics who have joined themselves to the community of the Missionary Sisters of St. Peter Claver in order to enrich their Christian way of life. Associates seek God by striving to become holy in their chosen way of life. By integrating their prayer and work, they manifest Christ's presence in society.

Saint Paul tells us that each member of the body of Christ, the Church, has a special function to perform. Most are called to the married state and the raising of a family. Some are called to the single life in the world and others to the life of a priest or religious man or woman. The role of Claverian Associates is to live in the world, to become holy in the world, to do what they can to bring the world to God by being witnesses of Christ by word and example to those around them.

Claverian Associate Members do not distinguish themselves from other lay people by exterior signs of habit or lifestyle etc. They do not take vows and remain in their own homes, continuing their profession or work and dealing with their own income. Their lives however, after the example of Blessed Mary Theresa, are orientated completely to God and witness to the Gospel.

Even if the consecration of the Associate Member is made publicly, it is a private promise to live the evangelical counsels according to his/her state of life. It does not therefore have juridical consequences or financial obligations, neither on the part of the Associate Member or on the part of the Congregation of the Missionary Sisters of St. Peter Claver.

By integrating their prayer and work, they manifest Christ's presence in society.

Their lives, after the example of Blessed Mary Theresa, are orientated completely to God and witness to the Gospel.
